THE POCKET PARK KIDS
Meet Honey the Parakeet
When a parakeet makes his nest in the pocket park's old oak tree, the kids discover he is smarter than the average parakeet—and he has a lot to say. Honey speaks entirely in the words of the world's greatest change-makers: from Frederick Douglass to Greta Thunberg, Margaret Mead to Maya Angelou. He has escaped captivity to make his home in the park, and he isn't about to let anyone take it away. When the bird starts talking, will the kids listen?

THE INSPIRATION
Meet Disco & the Honeyguides!
Honey was inspired by Disco the Budgie (a.k.a. parakeet), a real-life parakeet who became famous for his remarkable ability to mimic human speech and quote movies and famous people. Male parakeets can mimic as many as 1,700 words!
Honey’s name was inspired by honeyguides, birds that communicate with people to lead them to bees’ nests, where the people harvest wild honey, and the honeybirds feast on grubs and beeswax left behind. What an amazing example of humans and nature helping each other!
